Meal Times We are very conscious of all the latest views and news as regards to healthy eating and we incorporate this into our food policy. We cater for all dietary needs, as well as for children who are vegetarian.
A mid-morning snack is also offered to all children. We have what is called a rolling snack time in which the children come to the snack table in small groups, whilst play continues. There is always an adult sitting at the table with the children to oversee what goes and to chat and encourage the children with their choices. The children have a choice of milk or water to drink, as well as a plate of fruit which is shared amongst them. After they have finished their snack, the children put their names on a board and go off to play again. This all helps to make snack time a happy and sociable part of the day.
A variety of meals are enjoyed with spaghetti bolognese, chicken casserole and cheese and tomato pizza among the favourites. These are all served with fresh vegetables, potatoes and/or salad.
Puddings include yoghurt, fruit salad and flapjack with custard. The children are not made to eat food they do not like, but are encouraged to try a little. All the children ask to leave the table when everyone has finished and say thank you for their meal.
For the children who stay with us in the afternoon, we offer tea at 4 o clock. This is a light meal which usually consists of a selection of fruit, cheese, bread and butter, scotch pancakes, crumpets, etc.
Again, the children have a choice of what they want to drink and everyone sits together with the staff. We try to encourage and promote good manners all of the time.
For the babies in our care, we are very happy to cater for individual needs. Most of the babies having nursery meals when weaning is well established.
